I took a stroll around the North Wall side of Pagham Harbour this afternoon before I saw my client who lives in Pagham. The weather was still very good with clear blue skies and warm winds, a feature for the last couple of weeks. There was a Grasshopper Warbler in the Church Norton churchyard yesterday so there was always the possibility of something unusual today.
Parking up, a Willow Warbler was seen singing within an orchard beside the road, so that was a nice start. The walk to the harbour wall produced a pair of Swallows, which sang overhead while chasing insects. The Pool was relatively quiet, with a pair of Gadwall, a single Little Egret, a single Black-tailed Godwit and a singing male Reed Bunting the birds of note.
Other birds included a pair of Little Grebes on the water and nearby; a Sedge Warbler was in song on and off, though I never saw the bird. Out in the fields, a Grey Heron, Little Egret and several Teal were present on the small pools. The tide was out within the harbour and the heat haze made viewing difficult. I spent around half an hour here before I had to make my way back to the car for my appointment.
