Davidstow Airport and Boscastle, nr Camelford, Cornwall.

There was a report of an Isabelline Wheatear on Davidstow Airport last night, so the return journey home, we stopped off at the old Airfield in search of the bird. There were no birders present so it probably wasn’t true but I did find four Wheatears in one particular area and one did look interesting! I didn’t have my scope with me at the time so I got back in the car and headed off to Boscastle.
This village got all the media attention a few year back for all the wrong reasons as the place was victim to a very bad flood in which many houses were lost. Now, the place, probably due to the media attention, was swarming with tourists, including myself I suppose. Becky and I had lunch there but a fine Grey Wagtail was seen flying up the valley and climbed on board my month tick list. Huzzah! Not a lot of other birdlife seen, though as I was driving out of the village, a Peregrine (another month tick) flew over the road and over the neighbouring fields.
This finished off a fine weekends birding and though we couldn’t get to go everywhere, the selection was superb.   I ended up with four year ticks of which one, the Buff-breasted Sandpiper, was my first for many a year. Apparently, up to three Black Storks were seen at Portleven area!
